A beautiful evening with a magical family
Some sessions just stay with you, and this was one of them.
I met up with this beautiful family of four at the wetlands inlet near Surf City/Topsail Island, and from the moment we started, I knew it was going to be special. I'm seriously in love with the lowcountry here in South East Carolina and this session just showed that off in such a beautiful way. The light was soft, the air was warm, and the salty marsh water stretched around us in that quiet, peaceful way.
But what made this session unforgettable wasn’t just the location, it was the way this family interacted with one another, nothing but absolute love.
There was so much laughter from the very beginning. Mom and daughter balanced along some drift wood, then danced together without a second thought, Dad held his serious little guy and played with boats. It was a dream come true when nobody cared about getting their feet or legs wet. They were all in for the experience. And honestly, that’s where the magic always is, when families let go of perfection and just be together.
As the sun began to set over the waters, the sky turned the most beautiful shades of gold and soft pink. It felt like a Nicholas Sparks movie, the way water reflected the light, the chirping of the crickets, the way the tall grass moved in the breeze, the smell of the salt in the air and this family just snuggled into each other like the rest of the world didn’t exist.
One of my favorite things about this session was the connection this family shares. Mom and Dad were not only adorable together, but you could tell they are truly best friends. Their daughter is one of the sweetest souls and their little guy brought so much joy and energy to the evening. They laughed easily, held each other close, and made my job incredibly easy, because all I had to do was document what was already there.
This is why I love lifestyle family photography so much. It’s not about perfect posing or everyone looking at the camera. It’s about movement, connection, laughter, wet feet, dancing, snuggles, and the way your family feels when you’re all together.
The magic was so real that night that I can still feel it weeks later.
Here are some snipets from that night, enjoy!
